Asides from agreeing that the new proposal is not desirable we may differ in perspective. The rowing boats that pain you in the summer have been out training in the winter and spring in all weathers. If you think they should be on the left or the right then I suspect they are right to think you're wrong. There are clear rules as to where boats should be on the river dependent on the tide. Most, but not all, rowers know these and those that don't are a pain. All working boats know these and some pleasure boats do; many do not. Those that do not also frequently don't obey the speed limit in force in this stretch of the river and think it interesting (or have no undersanding of simple physics) to shoot up alongside rowing boats before ostentatiously cutting their speed leaving the increased wash that creates to buffet the rowing boat. It may pain you to reduce your speed on a summer's pleasure cruise, they'd probably see that as preferable to having several gallons of Thames effluvium emptied over their shoulders and back before flooding their boat. |
