Perhaps the majority of Palestinians aren't terrorist and would just like to get on with their lives in peace? While trying to get to sleep early one Monday morning (I really ought to make my double espresso a decaf these days when I finish a meal out!) I ended up listening to R4's Crossing Continents about getting Gaza back online: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002zrnw?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile It mentioned what sounds a great initiative "Gaza Sky Geeks" which sounded an excellent was to get young Gazans earning and involved in the global hi tech economy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaza_Sky_Geeks It seems to have been initially set up with the assistance of Google and has involved Microsoft at some stage. It perhaps provides a ray of hope for young, intelligent, well educated and entrepreneurial Gazans to earn a living while contributing to the global tech world. I doubt whether they're fans of Hamas but probably not fans of Israel while there's discontinuity of fast Internet and electricity, and a block on the devices they need to pursue their careers in software engineering, web site development, AI, etc. ( And I guess Google, Apple et al aren't able to mentor them now.) However, it seems a way forward to rebuild a new Gaza if these youngster are given the opportunity? Perhaps in the future they'll be developing AI and if western tech companies aren't allowed back in to support them, they'll be doing it for the UAE and Saudi, etc - or China and Russia? |
