| The list of countries you condemn, Michael, is impressive, but they are not all the same. Russia's attack on Ukraine was unprovoked, while Israel responded to attacks by Iran's proxies, Hamas and Hezbollah (in the case of Hamasl, an appalling pogrom involving rape, mutilation, kidnap and murder). I don't think anything is gained by conflating aggression with legitimate self defence. Now it may be that you consider Israel's response as whoĺly disproportionate. If so, I think you and all those who take the same view are under an obligation to explain how Israel should have acted differently to retrieve the hostages and eliminate an army of 40 000 fanatics who had vowed to repeat the jassacre of October 7 'again and again'. It is easy to sit in judgment from the safety of Putney. |
