My original post has brought up wonderful things. Yes, de Montfort's ('t' not 'd' I think) did have a small teashop at one time. I used to live next to the French Revolution pub - they had a lovely, unclipped standard poodle who always checked out new customers. Several shoe shops in the High St, Inc Lilley and Skinner possibly where Paperchase is now. Strange shop in the Upper Richmond Road, not far from where Warrens is now, which had corsets in the window and sold paraffin for paraffin heaters. And tiny clothes shop a long way along the upper Richmond Road to the East which sold seconds and ex-window display clothes quite cheaply. Had a cat called Emma or maybe Emily. And yes, I;d forgotten Sainsbury in the High St and the separate queues - wow! |
