The prevailing attitude by councils and indeed many on this forum that you "just" walk an extra 15 minutes or "bus hop in an opposing direction£ ie. cross the busy Putney bridge to pick up the 270 or 220 at the stop there because the bus stops on the high street have simply been removed is actually shameful. For those of us whose bodies have been damaged and cannot carry heavy shopping without crippling pain, to wilfully extend the amount of time to have to carry said shopping is at best inconsiderate and at worst uncaringly cruel. The difficulties are quite apart from any separate issues of actual mobility as well. It is true that taking part in consultations might be of benefit, however, it is very clear from the many(patronising)comments on this forum how little understanding there is of other people's disabilities and that therefore the prevailing comments would not take this into account. I am now expecting further patronising comments along the lines of do your shopping online - yeah well your actual pensioner living alone is not going to find that much of an answer. |
