Hi Bunny, I believe the term "chav" did originate as a word for a child of very poor parents, however this term has been expanded into a derogatory term now based on the acronym I mentioned.

This conflict took place between two private individuals on Priory Lane, and we would not be discussing it now had the video been posted out, unnecessarily in my opinion, to a wider public.  Those who have chosen public life have to take this on the chin, but I can't help remembering the Indian nurse, tending the Duchess of Cambridge, who was unwittingly humiliated in public, and committed suicide.

Mr Wells is a private individual, who as a businessman espouses the Tory values of private enterprise that the majority of Putney recently voted for.  Andrew (Thrasher) Mitchell was a Tory public figure with enormous power and influence.  He verbally abused Policemen outside Downing Street, and after a lot of fuss, media analysis, an expensive court case, and eventually, gave a grudging acknowledgement that he was wrong.

Surely we cannot be surprised at the appalling outburst in Priory Lane, mirrored all over London, when after 9pm the airwaves are full of conflict-based "drama" and celebrities swearing to applause.  Most stand-up comedians make Mr Wells sound like the Dalai Lama, and even national treasure Helen Mirren rushed into a public street and swore long and hard at a bunch of drummers who had unwittingly drowned out her theatrical performance indoors.  She was publicly admired for this shabby behaviour.

So, rather than funding celebrity pockets, and voting for politicians who fiddle expenses, and cover up horrendous crimes against children, should we not just take Mr Wells' non-violent outburst on the chin and accept his apology?  Another poster has suggested that coffee be sought at two large American outlets in the High St, one a FIFA sponsor, and the other who fails to pay corporate tax.

Of course, Mr W is the boss at Brew, and should have known better, but should we take it out on innocent staff at a local independent start-up that seems to be very popular elsewhere, employing and training increasing numbers of people?  We are governed from the top by those who exhibited far worse behaviour in their student days.  Boris loves a bike, but has invested in a couple of menacing water cannons, just in case the natives get restless.

A lot of mixed messages here:  one rule for those already in the public eye, and another for those who inadvertently get caught in its field of vision, sometimes with dire consequences.
