Dear members of message ‘Phone muggers on Scooters’ As you may have read in the media recently London (and Wandsworth) has seen an increase in ‘snatches’ of mobile phones Typically, these offences are happening when commuters are walking home from work and using a Smartphone, which causes them to be distracted. The suspects (usually 2 youths on a motorbike, moped on pedal cycle) approach from behind and snatch the telephone away and make off very quickly. Fortunately, no one has been seriously hurt as a result of these offences. We take these offences very seriously and are working hard to Identify and locate suspects for these offences and prosecute them accordingly. Recently on 16th November 2012 a young man was identified, charged and convicted for one of these offences and sentenced to 6 months in custody. If anyone has witnessed or has any information on these offences please contact the Serious Acquisitive Crime Unit with information on 0203 276 2555 or alternatively call crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. We are also looking to identify and recover vehicles used in these offences so if you see any apparently abandoned vehicles (mopeds/motorbikes) please also let us know via 101.
