My Sentiments exactly Mark. The thing that's happened here is that Travellers have been classed as these poor unfortunate people who have fallen on hard times and therefore are living a 'mobile lifestyle'. They are not those things. They have enough money to drive decent vehicles for one thing - and how is that possible? Because they don't pay any form of tax, many of them steal instead of buy things and work cash in hand. Meanwhile, the rest of us are trying to make a decent living and th ose of us who don't want these low-lives in the neighbourhood are accused of being non PC or of being unsympathetic to those less fortunate. They are NOT less fortunate - they chose to live like that - generations of their families have done so and if they do not want to pay for things they shouldn't expect to use them! One more thing, the hospital site should not be given to them to use and the common is land for wildlife to live on and people to enjoy - not for travellers to leave their mess on and to spread misery. Also, I was under the impression that the land was gifted to the local government a number of years ago with the convenant that it should be used to provide medical help to the people of Putney - no mention of travellers! I'm all for helping the needy - but they are not needy and they'll get none of my sympathy. Now I'll stand back and wait for the backlash..!! |
