| I have to say that the responses to this thread were ….. a little surprising, not to say disappointing, apart from a very few of them. So I decided to try a small thought experiment; here it is: Imagine that the original report in Putney News was of a Jewish priest who was subjected to antisemitic abuse at a church meeting, as a result of which she felt forced to resign her post. Would your reaction be: (a) To express absolute horror at this and sympathy for the object of the abuse, or (b) To say nothing is proved yet so we should wait months until the authorities had investigated. I would hope that your reaction would be, as would be mine, the first of these. I’m not demanding that anyone should post their response here: it’s entirely up to you (though I would naturally be interested to see them). |
