Actually many peoples in the world are denied their own state e.g. the Basques, the Kurds. The Palestinians twice turned down independent statehood, in 2000 and 2008, on both occasions because they effectively refused to recognise Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state. Right now the proportion of Israelis in favour of a Oalestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza is around 20%. That is because polls suggest that Hamas would defeat Fatah and win control of both territories, implying a renewed threat to Israel.
