Ed. Yes, a good point. Many in the oil industry have accepted the science of climate change - not to would make people question their credibility as scientists and technologist - so they're looking for ways to mitigate the crisis without too many immediate changes to their business model.

Carbon capture is obviously one way to do that, although its viability on a large scale isn't proven. As one plan is to inject carbon dioxide (I assume other greenhouse gases as well) into exhausted oil fields I oil companies must see this is a way of making additional profits from the global warming caused by their sales of fossil fuels? An interesting route for the money to take!

Still, if it's proven to work, carbon capture may be the only way now to slow catastrophic climate change in the coming decades.
