Simon I think your idea has a lot going for it. A number of people in this thread have been asking why the beggar was being prosecuted, and speaking for myself, I was totally unaware of the Vagrancy Act 1824 [or subsequent legislation]. A very simple solution suggests itself. Erect a sign outside the Natwest stating 'Begging is illegal', and making reference to the statute concerned. Might not look good. Would require a number of permissions. But potentially cheaper and more effective than the time taken up by the police and the courts, surely? |
