I agree with your concern about appointed MPs. It is a major stumbling block to PR.

Why bracket UKIP with the BNP Lucille? Remember, 1 in 8 people voted UKIP in the Euro elections. I would love to see the UKIP leader, Nigel Farage, unseat the smug John Bercow in Berkshire. I doubt the MPs vote for election of a speaker would yield the same result when put to the incoming parliament. You may remember, it was the votes of Labour MPs that elected him; to embarrass the Conservatives and there will not be so many of Labour MPs this time round.

Apart from chickening out of an election when Blair stood down, one of Brown's biggest mistakes was to break Labour's manifesto promise; to give us a vote on the EU Constitution, otherwise known as the Lisbon Treaty. If ever a government has shown contempt for the people, it was on these two issues. I believe that the Conservative's abandonment of a referendum on the EU may lose them the opportunity of taking overall control in this election as voters look to other parties to express themselves. As with Labour, the LibDems are so pro-EU that they have no intention of letting us make that fundamental decision. The Lisbon Treaty can be reversed if it is the will of the people.

Immigration has emerged as a major issue in this election and there are a host of reasons why people feel frustrated. As has been pointed out by UKIP, the only way we can legally take back control of our borders is by tearing up the Lisbon Treaty (and leaving the EU - not the EC). The massive cost for provision of increased infrastructure and the public services that go with them, together with social benefits because of an increased population is crippling us. The figures produced to demonstrate that immigration is of economic benefit to the country are a con. They do not include the infrastructure costs for additional schools, hospitals, transport etc. or a contribution to the infrastructure we have historically paid for.

Incidentally, in the leaders’ debate, Clegg lied about the numbers of immigrants from the EU; it is 40% not 80% of the total. The other 60% are from outside the EU and the largest single group of overstayers/illegals are Australian! Cameron was embarrassed when challenged on his cap policy because he did not know the actual proportions. Another incidental downside of the Lisbon Treaty; we will be forced to pay many tens of millions to bail out Greece, even though we are not members of the Euro; scandalous!

The biggest financial benefit to the UK in these times of crises is to leave the Socialist EU club and put the money saved to pay off our debt and put some back into people's pockets to stimulate the economy. Approximately £2,000 for every man, woman and child in the country is what it currently costs us. We simply cannot afford to maintain the size of "the state" built up by EU membership and by Labour. Mass unemployment will result; there is no question about that even though the 3 main party leaders refuse to address this major problem in public. The difference in this recession is that it will mainly be "office workers/management" that will lose their jobs and not "industrial workers".

So how will a changed voting system help put control back in the hands of us, the people? In view of the current policies of the big three parties, it will not make much difference on the biggest concerns of people; the economy and immigration.
