"A little irony in some of our traditional songs. Rule Brittania when we can't stop rubber dingys in the channel and Jerusalem when many of those singing were probably on the anti Israel pro Hamas marches." Still a child, I was watching the 1960 Olympics (Rome) on television, and I kept hearing a rather pleasing piece of music when the winners of events were receiving their medals. I eventually asked my uncle what it was. He told me that it was the Soviet national anthem. I was a bit surprised by this, but obviously that is where my troubles began. |
