Let's analyse that: A is probably my home: I can control who enters - are they vaccinated, have they shown a negative LFT. etc (and, if I choose, will they wear a mask. Probably not necessary). A-B transit on public transport: I don't know who I'm travelling with - are they unvaccinated, are they ignoring a positive LFT ... mask wearing by all as a mitigation measure makes sense. B: if it's a theatre, opera house, shop, etc then masks are required. In restaurant and pubs I'll be sitting in close proximity with people I know, most staff wear masks. In any case I'm choosing to go to places I feel are attending to my safety. People are free to chose which places they go to - except work if they can't WFH; it's then the employer's responsibility to ensure they're safe. Nothing's 100% certain - it's about mitigating and risk. Vaccines will reduce illness and transmission but not halt it (but the indication is it reduces severity significantly); masks will futher reduce transmission; testing will provide information to allow people to isolate if carriers also reducing transmission and allow them to seek appropriate treatment plus providing data to manage the pandemic. Anyway, masks and testing might be a nuisance but not invasive if one cares about others (unless with a valid exemption). |
