| "A new bridge would be best environmental solution." I think this is absolutely wrong: a new bridge would simply bring back on to the roads the traffic that has been suppressed/has evaporated; furthermore, yet more people will be encouraged to use their cars, adding to the congestion, the result being more greenhouse gases and more pollution being emitted: definitely NOT "the best environmental solution." The best solution in my view would be to ensure the bridge is safe for pedestrians to cross and boats to go underneath and then to reopen it, and to - at last! - start taking serious action to reduce our reliance on motor vehicles so that the twin problems of global heating and atmospheric pollution can finally be tackled. Anything else, in view of the huge threat to the planet from global warming and the continuing health problems in the population, is environmental idiocy. |
