An interesting though somewhat odd response, Mike! On your first point, you have it exactly the wrong way round: The answer(s) I want are huge reductions in (a) our use of fossil fuels and (b) atmospheric pollution. And there is no "forcing people out of their cars," rather a need to persuade them to use the things less for everyone's protection. As for your argument about Nicola Sturgeon, though at a distance it looks impressive, I have to admit I haven't a clue what you're trying to say. The next point about risk is, I think, quite wrong. If you or I choose to go skiing or whatever, that's voluntary and we have to accept the risk (which may well be part of the payoff). But on pollution, we do not have the choice: it's there and although you can try, it's virtually impossible to avoid it. So it's a completely different issue. Finally, go and live in the countryside? No thank you very much! I was brought up in the country, and it gets dark at night and nothing ever happens (apart from the odd cows farting, not very inviting); I couldn't wait to get away from it and into the civilised world. |
