David, it's not an either or with pollution and CO2 generation: both are reasons for reducing car use (and there are other reasons for not using the car for short distances, notably in the effects on obesity of a too-static lifestyle). But I'd be interested to see if there is actual evidence that the production of small particulates is decreasing, not least because vehicle exhausts are not the only source of them: brake linings and tyres are significant sources too. And I don't see that people will be made poorer by tackling air pollution: can you explain? |
