It also begs the question whether trees being planted can be chosen which are not likely (if planted right next to a house) to have roots which within a short space of time cause subsidence and drainage problems, which is presumbably what caused the premature death of the one in our street!  Not being a horticulturist I have no idea whether that kind of tree exists, but one would hope consideration is made to these types of issues before trees are planted....but maybe that speaks of too much organisation and planning!!
