I'm really sorry for you. Street trees make such a positive difference to how our residential roads look. When the tree outside our house was cut down (some years ago), it was because it was diseased. The council took a couple of years to replace it, as they only had a limited budget at the time.

Good luck to you on this - have you contacted the Putney Society - perhaps they have a suggestion as to what you might do.
