Michael, you are so but SO right! We do prefer public transport. I do not know what you mean about "the motor industry's long term view is autonomous". I am perplexed because I think so-called "need" (new need, additional need) is being pushed by companies - be it cars, fridges, etc. We no longer repair, we replace! How do you solve the problem named cars? I wonder if the solution is not staring at us in the face? About two weeks after the Kings Cross fire, I was on the Victoria Line from Oxford Circus to Victoria. The train took 20 minutes from Oxford Circus to reach Green Park. The announcement on the tannoy was that there was a fire in the tunnel ahead. I took off in Green Park, ran like mad to the Piccadilly Line to Earls Court, reached East Putney when my then fiancée was waiting for me. I said most categorically that I was buying a car and never travelling in an underground. I have not done this since. Overground fine, underground never! Perhaps that is why I am so keen in alternative means of transport! |
