Not one penny...I guess that includes the taxes of those parents who choose faith schools then. It is a parental responsibility/duty to educate their children and not the state. The state has progressively taken over funding where the faith based organisations had pioneered but that does not give it the right to dictate the values etc that parents hope their children adopt or the context in which their children are educated. There is far too much authoritarian interference in such matters and diversity will ultimately be destroyed by such interference. Secularists form a tiny minority (there are only about 20,000 members of the Secularist Society) but there seems to be a disproportionate and increasing level of media exposure given to their views, particularly by their sympathisers in the BBC. |
