There is a long list on the website at: http://www.halfmoon.co.uk/history/wallsoffame.htm and also a history of the venue at: http://www.halfmoon.co.uk/history/story.htm Quickly picking some artists out that I think are worth recalling, there are household names such as The Who, The Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, U2, Elvis Costello and Van Morrison. Sixties R&B pioneers: Alexis Korner, Rocket 88, Jack Bruce, John Mayall, Spencer Davis, Paul Jones and Peter Green. 1970s artists such as Ronnie Lane, Peter Frampton, Peter Green, Lindisfarne and Fairport Convention Singer songwriters and folk singers from several generations including Tom Paxton, KT Tunstal, Ralph McTell, Maddy Prior, Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford; several Americans including KD Lang and Joe D’Urso Pub rock stalwarts Dr Feelgood, The Hamersters, Steve Gibbons, The Pirates, Wilco Johnson and Nine Below Zero From the 1980s several great new wave bands which I won’t list and also more recent bands and singers who have found international success. I find it truly amazing that all of these artists have played in my local pub on the Lower Richmond Road and that new bands have the same chance today. They will not all be as successful but all the successful ones started at places like this. If we don’t have live venues then we will end up in an X Factor world! |
