I hope it's clear that I have absolutely no sympathy for Nidal Hussain, but showing publicly his execution is not only vile (just for a moment, think what it'll look like when a man in a wheelchair is shot to death) but, as Matthew Syed powerfully argues in the Times today, it is stupid because the one thing that people like Hussain craves is publicity:

"Jihadists want to die publicly. They crave as many eyeballs as possible. Martyrdom — and this killer was a martyr to his core — is only partly about being reunited with God at the moment of extinction (as the Quran puts it, those killed in Allah’s cause are not dead but alive with their Lord); it is also about inspiring more jihadism. It is a public statement; advertising, if you will. The entire point of a martyr is for his death to be known, to secure a platform, and Hegseth is in effect handing them America’s arsenal of media assets."
