| Lighten up, Richard. Andy, Robert and I were only having a little joke at your expense as far as interference in other countries’ elections is concerned. Well I certainly was. I don’t see why Vance shouldn’t be free to express his opinion about the Hungarian election. The danger with this kind of interference, of course, is that it can be counter-productive, as it was when Barack Obama interfered in the Brexit debate. As it happens, I agree with you and Lucille about Vance. I don’t much like him. His behaviour towards Zelensky in the Oval Office was even worse than Trump’s. But he is a complex character - a Yale law school graduate despite a poor hillbilly background, married to an Indian-American, a friend of David Lammy, a Catholic convert and so on. Despite his stupid remarks at the MAGA conference the Trump administration has not cut military assistance to Ukraine. America remains the single largest contributor. As for what kind of president he would make, I think he would be more cautious than Trump regarding foreign intervention. |
