Yes, Robert, I guess I get too many views from the US and its voters - one may not be able to vote there but it may put UK economics and policy into perspective - such as a sensible desire to get closer to European allies and trading partners now the US is a dubious ally and has moved closer to Russia, and chsges its tariff policieson a whim. Interesting that the new Hungarian President and Ukraine's Zelensky (an EU candidate country) would like to see the UK rejoin the EU. (And I've also seen news items indicating that many Canadians, a fellow Commonwealth country, would like to join the EU! All fascinating possibilities.) Getting back to Mr Trump: his actions causing constant turmoil in the markets must/should be a worry to anyone with a money purchase pension scheme (which could lose the midterm elections for Republicans in the US); particularly as there's rumours some of his chums get advanced warning to play the markets! Trump could well influence the way people vote in the UK, as happened in Hungary ... Surely, it's just common sense to monitor what's going on in the world, even if one can't change it. |
