Steven. Sorry to be pedantic but Britain declared war on Germany in 1939 because it invaded Poland and, as British was in a military alliance Poland, it had an obligation to do that. (In a similar way that Poland might invoke NATA Article 6 if Russia were to attack it, and has invoked NATA Article 4 to meet to discussthe recent Russian drone incursions within its airspace.) Hence, your analogy isn't quite accurate. Sadly, I don't think persecution of the Jewish people was why Britain and France declared war in 1939. There's some debate about how much the allied governments knew but my understanding was the full horror of the concentration camps wasn't known until allied troops came across them? |
