Unite currently are very well run. There have been a number of disputes in the private sector which Unite have settled.

There have been instances in SW15 where all those on strike were dismissed many years ago.

If my memory is correct:

Union officials were dismissed after they picketed to enforce an overtime ban.

The workers wanted to hold a ballot but were forbidden from doing so on company premises.

The workers walked out to hold a ballot outside and were all locked out and lawfully dismissed.

The union officials were unfairly dismissed so got their jobs back.

I do not recall the union having strike pay or funds.

Because the workers effectively dismissed themselves unemployment was not eligible.

If you were a council tenant you're home was largely protected.

If however you bought your home under the right to buy you were at the mercy of the bank.

Unions have to follow strict labour laws as do employers.
