I agree Roland. As far I can see, we have three options: 1. Carry on as we are - polluting the air at an alarming rate - most of us will agree this isn't a great option; science suggests we'll kill the planet. 2. Take the reactionary line i.e. all car / air travel is evil - what I call the 'Larkrise to Candleford' option . Pollution is causing problems, so let's simply turn the clock back 100 years. Forget all the progress, let's just get hysterical and panic. Now, I recognise that waste is wrong and that we need to cut emissions, but (and I can't help it) there are few things I find more annoying than the current hysterical green lobby which seems to suggest that we should live in the airing cupboard and never venture out. Surely we're more advanced than that. 3. Think outside the box. Do vehicles have to be so detrimental to the environment? Surely we have the skills, enterprise and desire to find ways to power our transport in environmentally friendly ways; to enable us to experience the wonders of this amazing world and the people in it for ourselves without fearing that we're destroying that world - fuel efficient travel, environmentally friendly fuels etc. Surely progress not reaction is the answer?? |
