In a piece in today's Guardian the always reliable  commentator Jonathan Freedland says that "The view [voters] will form of [Burnham] will be largely shaped by what he says and does in the next few weeks. For much of the electorate, it will be the overture that decides their verdict on the show;" later on he says that "Burnham arrives without the slate-cleaning magic of a fresh mandate won in a general election, but voters do seem ready to give him a chance."

But not a line that the usual moaners/naysayers/right wing "experts" here are ready to take: they're all too ready to condemn him out of hand before even bothering to wait for the overture. What a dismal, literally hope-less bunch!
