| Fergal Keane is quite simply one of the best journalists of his generation. I happen to be in the land of his birth right now, and he is held in the highest regard here. Incidentally I met him once - in a Putney cafe! He lives in Richmond and was remarkably polite and chatty when a complete stranger (me) accosted him and stupidly started our brief conversation by saying “you look exactly like Fergal Leane” to which he answered “maybe because I am Fergal Keane!” Read his life story. He himself has struggled with his demons and has overcome them. But he is an example of how war reporting can nearly destroy a man. |
