Bit of an apples to oranges comparison though isn't it. The Prime Minister's salary is an anathema in the modern world.

Does the GLA job come with a free house, free transport, 24/7 armed security detail, etc?

If anything the council/government jobs tend to be slightly lower paid that their private sector equivalents, but then the state sector makes up for that a bit with more generous pensions than the private sector.
