There may be readers of the forum who are too young to remember a pre-plastic packaging age so I thought I'd start a thread and if anyone would like to add to it then please do. Milk in glass returnable bottles delivered to the door you probably know about. Sometimes delivered with morning rolls hung in a net (string) bag hung on the door knob. Milk delivered in metal crates to schools and disgustingly warm and sour in the Summer and with frozen ice on the tops in the Winter. Butter sold from barrels, patted into shape with wooden butter pats which were stored in tubs of water in between servings and the butter wrapped in greaseproof paper to take away. Shopping brought home in wicker baskets. I could go on but others may want to join in. If nothing else it's a release from Brexit! |
