Chicken and egg re parking at the Exchange - I'll take a bet that far fewer people drive into Putney to shop than used to simply because there is so little variety and choice in Putney shops.

I used to buy most of my clothes locally from M&S, Benetton, Top Shop and River Island. All we have left is Phase Eight, Gap  and the independent  Jaki.

I've spent  my summer hols travelling around  England - St Ives, Harrogate and the Kent coast. St Ives shops flourish because they are all independents and Harrogate (similar wealth as is Putney) has independents and all the good major stores like M&S and Waitrose. Some  properties are London prices. What is a small town in North Yorkshire (pop 75K) doing right that Putney (77K) isn't?
