| Thank you Leslie and Jonathan for those considered comments. I presume there is also a need to provide legal aid in order to ensure a fair trial to comply with the European Human Rights Convention? Although it was a civil case and there were other complex issues to do with freedom of expression, I seem to remember their lack of money and the need to defend themselves was one of the reason the "McLibel" defendants were awarded damages against the UK government by the ECHR? |
