I'm not saying it is a big deal but isn't it just a little patronising to congratulate someone (which to me is a pretty big way of offering support) on a gay relationship, unless of course you would start a similar thread every time a heterosexual relationship starts up? I agree with you that the comments are well-meant and I am sure are welcome - I'll be honest, I did drop her a line myself - but I'll be happier the day that the fact we have a Muslim Mayor and a gay MP never gets mentioned. (And I do think we are getting quite close to that, to be fair.)
