My understanding is that as well as commissioning the lifts the other planned major improvement is to move the barriers towards the platforms so the (1) there's a wider area to fit more entrance/exit gates and (2) the ticket machines can be relocated from the street into the new, larger, entrance hall. Space left can then be filled with retail units but it's unclear how much space they'll be and how many retail units will be outside or inside tha barriers.
