| Zac Goldsmith has organised a public meeting for residents to be able to put questions to Thames Water regarding its plans to use part of Barn Elms to construct the 'super sewer'. If you are interested in the plans, or if you have concerns, please do come along. Briefly - the proposed 'Super Sewer' is designed to reduce the amount of sewage overflowing into the River Thames. Every year up to 39 million tonnes of untreated sewage flows into the river from London's antiquated Victorian sewage system. The new scheme will combine sewage overflows, channeling the effluent into a new tunnel that flows underneath London to a processing plant in Beckton. The project will take seven years to complete. Barn Elms Playing Fields has been identified as a 'shaft site' for the construction of the main tunnel. The meeting will be chaired by Zac, and will be attended by Local Councillors and representatives from Thames Water. Where: Lowther Primary School Stillingfleet Rd Barnes SW13 9AE When: 8pm Wednesday 17th November |
