For some inexplicable reason, my local busy little post office on Putney Bridge Road closed down. So, at 2.15pm on Monday I joined a queue in the main office on Upper Richmond Road. After shuffling towards the counter for over 20mins I completed my short transaction. An elderly lady asked if someone could save her place so that she could sit down. There where others who found the wait a physical trial but felt compelled to stick it out. There was a business counter and a bureau-de-change each with short separate queues. As I limped out with my bad knee I counted thirty-four customers stretching right around the shop served by just three harrassed assistants at the time. They queued forever in wartime. I queue at my bank. We queued for school dinners. We queue. But why did I have to queue when there was a perfectly good alternative? Will one of those elected members say something? Don't blame someone else. Do something. Oh God - my knee!
