There was a lengthy and animated thread on this topic in the run-up to the last General Election in 2005. I am not sure whether it can be retrieved now, and indeed on occasion it got too heated... That said, the driver to change is the need to find a place for the 37 bus to turn round. At present, this is in St John's Avenue, and there are significant public health issues involved. Perhaps a shame that nowhere else could be found for turning round. Watch a lot more almost-empty buses going up and down Putney Hill, although the counter-argument is that it opens up new through journey opportunities. And shame that the 37 bus could not find its way to the hospital in Roehampton, to which there are few direct connections from central Putney, as a way of turning round |
