| I might just quote Steven Rose here: "I am afraid I agree with Michael (Brigo) on this issue. Burnham has as much right to become prime minister as Brown, Johnson, Truss and Sunak, none of whom came to power through a general election". He could have added Theresa May to the list, of course. It's the way our system works. Hardly ideal and I complained frequently about how a Tory MP could suddenly become PM so people now criticising this turn of events just to look back over the last 10 years or so. Where I don't agree with Steven is that Burnham will be a disaster. We just don't know yet. It could all go wrong for him as it did for Starmer but let's give him a chance to set out his stall and present his policy priorities. In my view the real disaster would be Farage in Downing Street, now that is now slightly less likely than a few weeks ago. He still has to explain just how strings-free that five million quid was, in between hustling for crypto "investments". |
