Mmm, Perhaps we don’t need an election at the moment. Aside from Labour's internal issues over leadership - although it looks like Starmer will now accept the inevitable and it's likely, for better or worse, Burnham will slide into the PM position. On the opposition side, we have Badenoch whose party seems to be disappearing into obscurity while we have Farage and Reform loosing some ground to Lowe's upstart Restore party. Then the also-rans, the LibDems and Greens are pushed into touch without proportional representation ... So we're left with two ex-public school boys and ex-commodity brokers squabbling and trading insults to become the main opposition to Labour! Personally, having worked with some brokers over the years, they may be good at times doing deals but have little ability at running anything or planning without the support of professional managers and support technicials; unfortunately, their arrogance often means they dismiss good advice if it's not what they want to hear. Let's face it, Rupert Lowe when at Barings recruited the infamous Nick Leeson: where did that leave Barings! Having heard Leeson speak a couple of times; yes, he admits his guilt (difficult not to!) but his senior managers obviously failed in their supervisory and governance responsibilities in that they were too blinkered by the profits and their own bonuses. That doesn't inspire confidence. (Check Google.) Then why are Reform planning to build a profile of all voters seemingly in contravention of the UK's Data Protection Act and the UK's version of the GDPR thus infringing our privacy rights? And why be so secretive and defensive about it: https://goodlawproject.org/high-court-rejects-reforms-bid-to-throw-out-our-challenge/ So, Reform build a national electorate profile database, leave the ECHR to remove our human rights and emasculate lawyers - then what's to stop them disenfranchising those with opposite views to theirs - or worse? As we can see elsewhere in the world, civilisation and the rule of law is a very thin veneer :-) Anyway, looks like without a written constitution Starmer will go soon and the next PM will likely be Burnham along with a new Chancellor .... perhaps we might get a some respite from the bickering and some governance ... (And where on earth do Reform find some if their candidates seemingly of limited knowledge and ability - are Restore's any better?) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gyr763n0qo |
