Yes, that there is a teaching pool has already been mentioned in the thread, as has the fact that there are other smaller pools in the area where swimming is taught and can be taught with the right arrangements and agreements in place so that all primary school children are able to swim 25m before they move to secondary school. It is a part of the National Curriculum that needs to be improved upon and which is easier to teach to most children when young with their peers.  Once learnt to do with ease it is much easier to pick up later - like riding a bike.

Swimming is an important life skill giving access to other watersports and ways to keep fit, stay safe and recover from illness and accident without putting so much weight on your feet.  Sport including swimming is good for mental health.

With the increase of smaller pools being built - mostly private and not public - and so many larger pools coming to the end of their (often Victorian) lives these longer pools preferred by able swimmers (who don't need such warm water) and for training are much fewer and further apart.  We don't have a lot of them in the UK!
