There were probably jobs more available then. Now it is not the same. It isn't so easy to get jobs that you don't need a lot of training for and where you can work while looking after children. With families stretched across not just countries but the whole world it is also harder to find grandparents and extended family who aren't working and are willing AND able to step in to help. Many more of them are themselves probably working for much longer than they did in the past. When and if homes are offered they are often far away from any family help.
We always think about the lack of accommodation available but there are lots of homes that are underoccupied! |
