Mr Rose 'There is a stereotype amongst Pakistanis, where women are given far less freedom'. I am not qualified to claim this is fundamental to the beliefs and teaching of Islam or just a consequence of a misogynistic Pakistani rural culture. But experience on the street of how Islamic women dress and behave plus what one reads of how they are treated in Arab countries (in Saudi only recently allowed to drive or leave the home without a male relative) would give the impression that this is true. I hope that this influence is constrained by law and British social mores and that the UK does not become segregated by race or religion. I have a degree of confidence that this will not come about when I observe the social mixing and commonality of behaviour of local school children. |
