Just to underline how utterly ineffective environmental regulation is, "no fines have been handed to water companies for illegal sewage overflows – despite the environment watchdog finding nearly 500 since 2020. The Environment Agency has identified 465 illegal sewage spills since that year, data obtained via a Freedom of Information request shows. A further 154 are under investigation as potentially illegal spills." - article today in the Telegraph (paywall) at https://www.telegraph.co.uk/environment/2024/12/15/no-water-firms-fined-over-sewage-dumps/ |
