Got a message from Wandsworth:
Pedestrians have not been forced to cross Putney high Street where our works are being carried out, if pedestrians choose to cross at this location rather than a safe alternative location then this is entirely their responsibility. As I’m sure you are aware the next available and safe crossing points are located at the junction of Upper Richmond Road or Chelverton Road which is only a 75m detour which I consider reasonable for a temporary basis. I realise these works will cause some disruption whilst in progress but I trust that I have reassured you they are being undertaken in a safe manner. I can also advise you that this crossing is programmed to be opened this evening.
I told them to stuff it - wish I had taken those pictures of buggies and children on scooters, crossing in the line of oncoming traffic. Obviously people will take risks, but they shouldn't be trapped into doing so. |
