I've always understood that if you sponsored somebody to do something that the idea was that they completed their "task" and then collected. Not: "I'm going to..."  and  "Can I please have the money up-front".

Pick up the Oxford Concise dictionary and look up the word gullible and you'll find the definition is: Putneyites.

Rule of thumb. Never part with money on the doorstep unless it's to some feral kids wearing halloween masks and you don't fancy your car being keyed.
