Tony Judt was incorrect. There were three trolleybus routes that ran through Putney, not two, and were introduced in 1937 when the trams were withdrawn. The routes were: Number 628, Craven Park to Clapham Junction, withdrawn 20th July 1960. Number 630, Harlesden to West Croydon (originally to Mitcham), withdrawn 20th July 1960. Number 655, Acton Vale to Clapham Junction, withdrawn, 9th November 1960. They came over Putney Bridge to Putney High Street, along Putney Bridge Road turning left into Wandsworth High Street. The 630 turned right into Garratt Lane and on to Croydon, the 628 and 655 continuing up East Hill to Clapham Junction. Trolley buses were never used on the West Hill route.
