My husband works there. I agree the re-build plans seemed over-ambitious but that was more I felt in relation to the likelihood of building at the end of a boom and then finding no tenants.
Pulling down the Capsticks building is likely only way as there is no air con and whatever the view on the green issues about that, modern offices need that. There wouldn't be enough ceiling/floor space for the modern computer cabling and air con etc accommodation. It is a very tired and out of date work environment. I think the external strucutrue also requires significant investment.

I don't see the reasoned view on the Forum about allowing for development. I just see everyone horrified and rejoicing at planning defeats. I think the tired and empty buildings look worse. None of them is attractive now and nothing that does get built will look that good - Putney commercial property does not attract that kind of premium.

Capsticks was not driven away. It has grown in size and nowhere in Putney has that space. It makes me wonder whether this is unique or whether other businesses experience that. It is these businesses that contribute to keeping the High St and surrounds alive during the working week.

Anyway, I just wanted to put my point of view, from the other side. I welcome planning applications and believe in the Council's ability to ensure appropriate size, parking etc. Call me naive but I welcome change, it brings opportunity.
